A Confinement Nanny, also known as a Confinement Lady, is a professional who helps new mothers with the physical and emotional challenges of caring for a newborn during the postpartum confinement period. This typically includes providing support and assistance with breastfeeding, caring for the baby, and preparing confinement meals.

Confinement Nannies are often hired by new mothers who need extra help during the first few weeks after giving birth. Many Confinement Nannies are experienced in traditional postpartum confinement care practices and can offer guidance on topics such as infant care, nutrition, and sleep training. It is important to note that Confinement Nannies are not babysitters.

The disconnection between Mummy and Nanny has proven to be costly time and time again. Mummies should not be satisfied by simply taking someone else’s word for it or leaving a middle man in charge of finding them a Nanny. In most cases, the middle man goes to a Facebook, WhatsApp or WeChat group, and posts something like: “I have a job for a confinement nanny. Contact me if you are available in August.” So the Mummy does not know who she is hiring. She skips the whole One-on-one Interview phase during which she was supposed to compare various Nannies and gain insight into her compatibility with them. Some Nannies who get the job do not even have actual proof of their previous jobs. We have encountered some who are very sensitive about disclosing their identity and refuse to publicly show photos of themselves or their previous jobs.

Most of the complaints were made by Mummies who took this path and ended up disappointed and wishing that they had put more effort into finding the Nanny. However, there was no better solution at the time so things were usually left to chance. Most Mummies are very emotionally sensitive during their confinement period, so much that some of them reported episodes of high blood pressure and depression. Others recounted the feeling of helplessness as they could only wait while counting down to the day the Nanny would leave their home.

Confinement Nannies are usually booked several months in advance. As a result, Mummies are often in a hurry to hire them before they are fully booked. Once an agreement is reached, the Mummy is asked to pay a down payment through an online transfer. According to the reports, some Nannies introduce more terms and additional charges after receiving the down payment, while others make last-minute changes just before the Mummy’s Expected Date of Delivery. In most cases, Mummies who disagree with such terms are unable to get a refund or find a replacement Nanny. As a result, they are forced to cope with the new demands and changes. On such occasions, some Nannies turned off their mobile phones leaving the Mummies worried and stranded. The Mummies also reported cases of scams, whereby someone posing as a freelance Confinement Nanny or representative of an Agency takes the down payment and disappears.

MummyNanny addresses this issue by allowing Mummies to make down payments through the platform instead of directly paying to the Nanny. This way, the Nanny receives the down payment only after the Mummy confirms her arrival. The Mummy gets refunded if the Nanny fails to turn up as agreed. The Mummy can also request a refund if she does not agree with any additional demands made after the down payment. In the case where the refund was due to Nanny’s fault, the Mummy will be assisted with an urgent hire. The Mummy will also leave her comments about the issue in the job portfolio to inform the next Mummy. This will discourage similar cases from happening in the future as they will appear on the Nanny's profile and affect her reputation. In the case where the Nanny believes that she was not in the wrong, she will provide her side of the story as well.

For someone to qualify as a verified freelance confinement Nanny, Mummies who have hired the person should be the ones to verify them. Hence, we cannot simply take whatever a Nanny claims to have done before as true since all job records need to undergo the Nanny Evaluation System. As a result, a Nanny who just joined MummyNanny will not have any job portfolio on their profile until she has been hired and evaluated by a Mummy. However, this does not mean that the Nanny does not have previous working experience. MummyNanny allows Nannies to state details about their previous work experience and qualifications on their profile and Mummies can use that as a reference during job interviews.

How does MummyNanny help Mummies to find suitable Confinement Nannies?

Determining the Nannies to interview can be overwhelming, especially when there are many potential candidates. This is when the Mummy filters out all those who do not meet her key criteria. Key criteria include the Nanny’s availability during the Expected Date of Delivery; budget; meal preferences; language spoken by the Nanny; and the Nanny’s sleeping arrangement. Mummies can select their key criteria from a list and only the qualified Nannies will be displayed. These requirements can be further adjusted to get a desirable balance.

Can I cancel an accepted job? #Nanny

If you are unable to proceed with the job as agreed, quickly contact the Mummy and request for a cancellation before the start date. In this event, Mummies will be required to complete their part of the Portfolio and then request to be reimbursed the refundable part of their Down Payment (the refundable part of a Down Payment is the remainder after deducting MummyNanny's Service Fee). Bear in mind that this may cause Mummies to give negative recommendations in the job Portfolio, so it is not advised to request for a cancellation if it can be helped.

What is a Nanny calendar?

Every Nanny needs a Portfolio to set themselves apart from other Nannies. You can tell Mummies all about your experience as a confinement Nanny and also show recommendations from previous jobs. However, Mummies cannot verify these claims or decide whether you meet their personal requirements without seeing them in a Portfolio.

Portfolios allow you to show and not just tell. They provide tangible proof of your work history, experience, relevant skills, and abilities, which demonstrates to Mummies that you are qualified for the job and meet their specific confinement requirements.

What is a Portfolio?

Once a Nanny is hired, a Portfolio will be created for the job. The Mummy will have the opportunity to rank the Nanny’s skills as well as provide reviews and recommendations about the Nanny in the Portfolio. The Nanny will also have the opportunity to provide reviews about the job experience in the Portfolio.

A Nanny can have several Portfolios, depending on the number of job that have been successfully completed. Each of the Nanny’s Portfolio contains first-hand reviews, recommendations and photos uploaded by the Mummy who employed the Nanny for that job. Therefore, Portfolios help Mummies to assess a Nanny’s knowledge and skills for providing the required confinement services and experience.

What happens if a Nanny fails to turn up as agreed (no-show)?

Such behaviour is unacceptable from a professional Nanny and MummyNanny strongly discourages this by making sure that the record appears on the Nanny’s profile. If a Nanny fails to turn up as agreed, contact customer service immediately for assistance.

How are Mummies ranked?

Mummies are ranked based on the Mummy Level, which indicates the number of their jobs that have been successfully completed. Note that cancelled jobs are not considered.

How are Nannies ranked?

Accepted Answer

The two main measures for ranking Nannies are the “Nanny Rank” and “Nanny Experience Points”.

Whenever a Nanny is hired for a job, the Mummy ranks the Nanny’s cooking skill, baby care skill and mummy care skill. The Nanny Rank is the average of all the Nanny’s cooking, baby care and mummy care ranks.

Nanny Experience Points indicate the number of jobs that have been successfully completed by the Nanny. Therefore, cancelled jobs are not considered.

How do I request for a refund? #Mummy

If the Nanny is unable to proceed with the job as agreed and requests for a cancellation before the start date, you will be required to complete your part of the Portfolio and send a request to be reimbursed the refundable part of your Down Payment (the refundable part of your Down Payment is the remainder after deducting MummyNanny's Service Fee).

How do I register for an Account?

Create your MummyNanny account by clicking on the profile image on the top-right corner of the page. This will lead you to the Authorization Page where you can select ‘Sign Up’ in order to access the Registration Form. After providing your account details and selecting a secure password, click on the button saying ‘Click here to request OTP’ to get a One Time Password (OTP) sent to the email address you provided. Enter the OTP you received into the OTP field on the Registration Form. Be sure to read and accept the Terms and Conditions before completing the Sign Up process.
