Auntie Lay Hong is an amazing cook. She formerly ran her own restaurant in Johor Bahru for almost a decade, so she definitely knows her way around the kitchen. If either parent has a certain craving, tell her nicely and she is more than happy to whip up a dish for you. Our favourites were Petai Pork, Homemade Yong Tau Foo, Moonlight Hor Fun, Petai Fried Rice, Char Siew, and the list just goes on. Also, if you like her food and would like to learn, ask nicely and she will gladly teach. Just a pro tip – bring her on your weekly shopping trips and watch her do her magic.
Baby Care
As new parents, we were overwhelmed by the number of new things that we had to do. Auntie Lay Hong assists by taking the initiative to (a) familiarise herself around the kitchen and the fridge, (b) feed the baby on demand, (c) bathe for the baby, (d) care and play with the baby. You do not need to tell Auntie Lay Hong what needs to be done – she knows, and she will do it. For instance, while we were on the way back from the hospital, she had already boiled the red date tea and prepared lunch for the wife. Another example is that she will take the time to familiarise herself with the baby, and understand what the baby wants when she cries etc. As new parents, this brought immense relief knowing that our baby was well taken care of.
She is also focused on her job. When Auntie Lay Hong is taking care of the baby or cooking, we did not once see her use her phone. All her attention is on completing the job. You will not find her calling another person or texting during the day, and we enjoyed that professionalism.
Mummy Care
She is accommodating. As a family, there may be certain things that you may wish to be done in a certain way. Communicate those with Auntie Lay Hong nicely, and she will get it done. For instance, we asked whether it was possible for her to wash our baby clothes by hand, and she has done it daily without complaint. Another example is that we asked whether it was possible for her to cook the husband’s dinner – again, no complaints and she will get it done. A final example is that we initially wanted the baby to latch for nightly feeds, and she dutifully will bring in the baby to the mother’s bedroom without complaints. We had read horror stories of parents with other nannies who were less flexible, so Auntie Lay Hong’s accommodating nature was a standout quality for us.
She does not impose. Speaking of Auntie Lay Hong’s flexibility, she does not impose her ways upon us. We read horror stories where certain nannies may insist on their ways. Auntie Lay Hong did none of those things. Of course, being a nanny with almost a decade of experience and four sons of her own, she has a wealth of wisdom which she is really willing to share. For instance, we were very concerned when our baby exhibited red spots on her face, and she patiently explained that those were just heat rashes common to every baby. She presents a sense of security in the wisdom that she possesses.
Recommendation & Experience
My wife and I had our first child in August 2023. As new parents, we knew nothing – we did not know how to hold the baby, how to feed the baby, or how to bathe the baby.

Auntie Lay Hong is an excellent nanny, and we were fortunate that she took care of us and our firstborn. We were so impressed that we extended her stay from 1 month to 1.5 months. We will definitely ask her to take care of any future children which we may have, and we wholeheartedly recommend her services to anyone.
I had a positive experience working with Mummy Priscilla and Baby Isabel. The family was very warm and welcoming, and Isabel is a lovely bundle of joy.
