🚫 Extremely Disappointed with Confinement Nanny and Agency 🚫
We engaged a confinement nanny through Confinement Angels agency in good faith, trusting that CA 822 May Lim Yin Me, would help us care for our newborn with professionalism and experience. Unfortunately, our experience was nothing short of distressing and deeply disappointing.
🔴 Serious Negligence That Endangered Our Newborn Baby’s Health and Life
Our baby was diagnosed with severe conjunctivitis in his eyes during his first two weeks of life – a condition that affects only about 2% of newborns and can be life- and vision-threatening if not treated promptly. The doctor confirmed (and we even have a doctor’s memo) that this was caused by improper cleaning of his eyes and face.
Despite us raising concerns about his eyes and surrounding skin at first, the nanny confidently dismissed it as “normal baby acne” and told us there was no need to see a doctor. Trusting her “expertise”, we held off – until the infection worsened and spread to the other eye. Our baby was in pain, and we had to rush him to a clinic on the third day.
Even after learning about our baby’s condition and the risks he had faced – including potential blindness – the nanny showed no concern, choosing to lie in bed instead of showing basic empathy. Confinement Angels, too, has failed to provide any substantive response or compensation despite the trauma, emotional stress, and risk to our child’s life, and the stress that we parents have suffered.
😠 Unacceptable Conduct and Attitude
• During her night duty, CCTV footage showed the swaddle and blanket covering our baby’s nose and mouth – a basic safety violation that could have led to suffocation.
• She reswaddled our baby while he was already asleep, causing unnecessary distress after we had painstakingly coaxed him to sleep.
• She napped for 4 hours during the day almost everyday, even after our baby was unwell.
• She was even sarcastic towards us when we instructed her to teach our helper - an express condition we had stated in the contract.
• Our helper revealed to us that the nanny always told her that they should overfeed our precious baby so that she can sleep more at night. This is plainly inhumane infant abuse.
• Despite having no chore responsibilities (we have a full-time helper), she frequently delegated bottle feeding, making of herbal bath (which only involves boiling a prepackaged bag we bought), and cooking tasks to our helper.
• She showed a lack of basic breastfeeding knowledge and empathy, discarding breast milk despite our gentle reminders that every drop counts – something all breastfeeding mums would understand.
• She also burnt our kitchen pans and utensils but never disclosed or took responsibility until our helper informed us later.
📣 We urge all parents to think carefully before engaging Confinement Angels or CA 822 May Lim Yin Me.
A confinement nanny is meant to support, not endanger. We expected professional care, compassion, and basic competency — instead, we received negligence, emotional stress, and serious health risks to our newborn.
Confinement Angels too has displayed shockingly irresponsible behaviour and an utter lack of service. They actively pushed for us to accept a replacement nanny by an unreasonable timeline of 6pm on the same day, and when we did, they told us the nanny was actually not available - the lack of basic due diligence is astounding. Further, in spite of the numerous life-endangering episodes and the nanny’s poor performance as well as the fact that we had provided evidence, Confinement Angels said their scope of responsibility is only to “assign a nanny” and “find replacements”. Despite multiple corresondence, Confinement Angels has, to date, failed to provide any substantive response or compensation to our family.
Our trust has been irretrievably broken, and our poor baby deserved so much better.
